Born in Bogotá Colombia, and now living in Castlebar, Co. Mayo, Ireland.
I wish to raise my son as bilingual. My goal is that he’s able to communicate well, and have a bond with his family in Colombia, as he has with his family in Ireland.
At the beginning of my journey, I started looking for a native Spanish speaking teacher in the area; someone who could teach my son the correct sound and pronunciation of the language, so he could familiarise with it from the baby stage (when they are more receptive to new sounds and experiences).
Not being able to find someone with those characteristics in the area, inspired me to do it myself, creating different methodologies and resources to engage with him and grow his interest for the language and culture.
After seeing and experiencing the benefits that learning a new language at a young age can bring to a child, and experiencing how important it is to find the right methodologies that worked for my son; I decided to share my knowledge and experience with other children, by creating ‘Hey amigos!’ ; a place where children can learn Spanish, be part of a community to experience a Latin American culture, make new friends to practice the language with, and have fun while learning!
To complete my journey; I adopted the award winning methodology ‘La Jolie Ronde’ to offer language classes to children in my community, which is now my home in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
And same as I did with my son; Inspire children and offer them limitless opportunities to learn a new language and about the diversity of the Spanish-speaking culture.
